About Assassin’s Creed Unity

Before an examination of that which is portrayed in the game can be made, basic background and plot information pertaining to Assassin’s Creed Unity needs to be given. Assassin’s Creed Unity is the latest entry in the eight year old Assassin’s Creed franchise created by French Company Ubisoft. Each game deals with a conflict between two rival factions which have been fighting for hundreds of years, The Templars and The Assassin Brotherhood, with the Templars typically being the antagonists in the games. Each game is set in a different time period in history, examples of time periods that have been used would include the Crusades, the Italian Renaissance, and the American Revolution. The Templars seek to create the perfect world, emphasizing purpose, order and control and believe that individual freedom needs to be restricted. In contrast, the Assassins champion individual freedom as they believe that it has allowed for new ideas to develop and for the creation of individuality. Assassin’s Creed Unity brings this age-old conflict to the French Revolution with the player taking on the role of fictional character Arno Dorian, a member of the Assassin Brotherhood in France. Throughout the game, Arno comes into contact with many famous figures of the revolution and bears witness to the events of the revolution.
